Fontezoppa

Fontezoppa is the name of an ancient water spring that flowed where now there are rows of vines. Everything in Marche has a name, valleys, trenches, fields and alleyways; it is the sign of the passage of man and of an intense relationship with the land. And it is from the land that we need to start in order to tell the story of the Fontezoppa Cellars. Here, a variety of grape left in expert hands and using ancient methods meets the generosity of the soil and the goodness of the air. The result is a wine of strong personality, produced in the green hills some of which have a view of the sea and others which look towards the mountains. In Civitanova Alta and in Serrapetrona the right balance was found between climatic conditions and richness of soil. It is therefore in the area that lies between the Adriatic sea and the Monti Azzurri that the Fontezoppa Cellars grow and mature their best wines.

In the foothills of the Monti Azzurri, on the other hand, we find the cultivation of Vernaccia Nera, Pinot Nero and Sangiovese. Serrapetrona has always been the land of Vernaccia, a grape variety with an ancient spiciness that is capable of catching the attention of the national winemaking industry and which today is seeing a major resurgence and is undergoing development. Like other Fontezoppa wines, Vernaccia is the result of striking many balances. Firstly, there is that between the sweetness of the maturation, the touch of fruitiness and the exaltation of sweet tannins. With dense vine spacing the task is achieved of containing the vegetation thus enhancing the low yields per plant and bestowing value on every bunch of grapes.
